Setting a Hyperlink

Any figure or label can contain one (and only one) hyperlink to another diagram, document, or web page.

To link a figure or label to another diagram or document

  1. Select one figure or label.
  2. Choose Set Hyperlink from the Figures (or Labels) menu, or right-click the figure and choose Set Hyperlink.
  3. Use the dialog box to select a file (diagram or document) for the hyperlink or replace a previous hyperlink. You can also use the Remove button to eliminate the hyperlink.
It is a good practice use relative file names where appropriate when linking to files on the same computer as the diagram file that contains the linked object.  For example, if you have a number of diagrams that are part of a project and contain hyperlinks to one another, it's best to use the file names alone as the hyperlink "FILE1.EDG" (assumed relative) or ".⁄FILE1.EDG" (explicitly relative) rather than "C:⁄PROJECT⁄FILE1.EDG".  Using relative file name links permits you to move the entire project to a different folder or drive without having to reconstruct all of the links.  There is a relative/absolute option to help with creating relative links in the browse dialog box used by the Set Hyperlink screen. NOTE: all web URL hyperlinks must be absolute, starting with one of the following protocol identifiers "http:", "https:", "ftp:", or "file:".
